Senator Kathy Marchione endorses Copake Town Councilwoman Terry Sullivan for re-election

Copake Town Councilwoman Terry Sulliv an has delivered fiscal accountability, been actively involved in the community, brought people together and has a proven record of experience and accomplishment on the Copake Town Board that has benefitted all residents, says Senator Kathy Marchione

Copake, NY – New York State Senator Kathy Marchione (R,C,I,Reform-Halfmoon) today announced her endorsement of Copake Town Councilwoman Dr. Terry Sullivan for re-election this fall. Councilwoman Sullivan has served on the Town Board since 2014 and has also been endorsed for re-election this fall by the Republican, Independence and Conservative Parties, respectively.

“Councilwoman Terry Sullivan has a strong record of experience and accomplishment in successfully serving Copake families and making a positive difference across the community. Whether it is in her capacity as a member of the Copake Town Board, or her continued good works as a doctor, Councilwoman Sullivan’s focus is advancing the greater good and improving the quality of life for those she serves,” Senator Marchione said.

“Councilwoman Sullivan has helped and served others and made the community a much better place for everyone. I am proud to endorse Councilwoman Sullivan for re-election to the Copake Town Board so she can continue leading, serving and bringing people together,” Senator Marchione stated.

Councilwoman Sullivan serves as liaison to the Town of Copake Planning Board, Ethics Board, Broadband Committee, Environmental Committee, and as a member of the Agricultural Committee supporting the Future Farmers of America program at Taconic Hills Central School District.. Prior to serving on the Copake Town Board, Terry Sullivan also served as a member of the Town Ethics Board.

Dr. Terry Sullivan earned her BA and MA degrees in communication disorders at Queens College (speech-language pathology), her post-graduate degree in audiology at Lehman College in the Bronx and her Doctor of Audiology (2000) at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Dr. Sullivan owns and operates Sullivan Speech and Hearing, PC and has 40 years of clinical, management, supervisory and administrative experience in healthcare as both an American Speech–Language–Hearing Association-certified speech-language pathologist and audiologist with pediatric through geriatric populations, as well as 16-years’ experience as a college professor teaching graduate and undergraduate courses at the City University of New York.

Dr. Sullivan currently works as a Speech Pathologist at Fairview Hospital, serving children through adults in both Acute Care and Out Patient Rehab Departments, and consults at Community Rehabilitation Center in Kingston and Camphill Village in Copake. She is licensed in both speech-language pathology and audiology in New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Dr. Sullivan was elected to represent New York State on the Advisory Council of the American Speech and Hearing Association and served for five years. In addition, Dr. Sullivan has been a licensed Zumba instructor for six years and teaches at the Copake Town Park.

Councilwoman Sullivan has organized and participated in numerous community events which have successfully raised thousands of dollars for local organizations and groups such as Copake Town Park; Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund; Copake 4-H Club; Salvation Army Toy Drive; Columbia-Greene Humane Society; Fundraiser for Hope and the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

As a performer with the Earth Angels, Councilwoman Sullivan helped raise money for the Dollars for Scholars program at the Taconic Hills Central School District and has provided free hearing screenings for five years at the “Golden Gathering,” a community-based popular health , wellness and quality of life event for senior citizens sponsored by Senator Marchione and held annually at Columbia-Greene Community College, which co-sponsors the event.

Dr. Sullivan lives at Taconic Shores with her husband, Joseph Ambrose, and their three dogs.
