SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. — Support for Senator Roy McDonald is still under consideration in Saratoga County.
A meeting of the County republicans ended without a decision on whether they’ll support the incumbent’s hopes for re-election. County Chair Jasper Nolan, who supports McDonald, tells us that the decision was tabled until a future meeting.
McDonald was endorsed by the state Independence Party last Sunday. The nomination means he will be on the ballot in the fall.
McDonald made waves in Republican and Conservative circles when he crossed the aisle and supported same-sex marriage last year. McDonald told us on Saturday he is proud of his vote for same sex marriage, and believes he has the support of voters in Saratoga County.
“It’s a difficult year for people. I’ve had to make a difficult vote. I voted the way I thought was in the best interest of our community, and the best interest of just being people and what I was sincerely in favor of,” said McDonald. “I believe I have the votes throughout the district and I believe I have the votes in Saratoga county. Not just with committee people but I believe with the general public.”
It appears Saratoga County Clerk Kathy Marchione may be challenging McDonald in the race. As of now, there aren’t any other official candidates.
