Thursday evening, during a forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters in Saratoga Springs, Roy McDonald surprised those in attendance by admitting that he had voted for the salary increases which his campaign has suggested Saratoga County Clerk Kathy Marchione gave herself.
When questioned on the subject by a Wilton resident, a visibly unsettled McDonald responded that he had in fact voted, on multiple occasions, to increase the salary of the Saratoga County Clerk in his capacity as Wilton supervisor.
Marchione does not set her own pay or benefits. Her compensation is determined by the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors.
“It’s just bizarre that Roy would attack Kathy for collecting a salary that he voted to increase. This just goes to show you how desperate Roy is to distract voters from his record of reckless spending and broken promises,” said Marchione spokesman Ken Girardin.
